Steel Roofing
Residential Steel Roofing (Shop All Steel Roofing)
Residential steel roofing is an excellent alternative to other forms of roofing materials because it is fast and easy to install. Steel roofing is also three times lighter than shingles.

Steel can easily be recycled. Conventional roofing products, including asphalt shingles, contribute an estimated 20 billion pounds of waste to U.S. landfills annually. Metal roofs can often be installed over an existing roof, eliminating the cost and environmental impact of tear-off and disposal.

Steel roofs easily shed snow and ice, which means you won't have to climb up a ladder to clear off your roof! Also, steel roofs will not absorb or be damaged by water.

Some insurance companies offer a discount when you install a steel roof on your home.
Steel Roofing Myths
A steel roof is more likely to be struck by lightning.
It is very unlikely that a steel roof will be struck by lightning. If a steel roof is struck by lightning, the energy will be safely dispersed. Unlike other roofing materials, steel is noncombustible and resists sparking.

A steel roof is noisy.
Metal roofing is actually much quieter than other roofing materials. When installed on top of sheathing, a metal roof can silence noise from rain, hail, bad weather, acorns or other items falling on your roof much better than other roofing materials.

You can't walk on a steel roof.
You can safely walk on any steel roof without damaging it. Before walking on your roof, talk to your roof manufacturer. They will have advice on how to safely walk on your roof based on the style and pitch.

A steel roof will easily dent.
Many steel roofs can withstand years of abuse from extreme weather like hail, high winds and heavy snow. A typical hail storm will not dent a Menards steel roof. Many steel roofing systems available on the market have a 120 mph wind rating (equal to an F2 tornado) so they can withstand wind gusts that can accompany hail storms.

A steel roof will rust.
Steel roofing features a coating of zinc with a zinc phosphate pretreatment that resists rust. A layer of paint is applied over the coating to provide a beautiful, long-lasting color.

A steel roof will absorb heat from the sun and my energy bills will go up.
Our steel roofs are actually very energy efficient because they feature Cool Chemistry® paint. This type of paint will reflect the heat from the sun, keeping your home cooler in the hot summer months.
