bought this splitter on sale (2013) past summer and wasn't sure what to expect, this was my first log splitter. The price was exceptional and wasn't expecting this be have such great service. A part broke a week after using it, I looked up the part on line, purchased it from the distributor and called the manufacturer to let them know what happened. they sent me the part and a refund check for my purchase, forwarded my complaint and pictures to Asia. I have been using this splitter for several months with no regrets.
Just purchased this unit on 10/30/2013. yesterday, I un-packed and assembled the splitter and as stated prior, if you are by yourself, it is much easier to un-pack all but the I-beam / cylinder. then assemble the under carriage then stand the I-beam / cylinder assy. upright then roll the under carriage to it, insert the pivot pin and you are good to go. The thing that clinched the deal for me was a phone call to a factory rep before and after the purchase. their staff was very helpful and eager to make the consumer happy no matter what. not to mention the great deal from Menard's. The motor starts on the first pull and splits most woods at less than half throttle with no effort. The quality over all is exceptional. the manual is well written and the best part is that all the assembly parts and fasteners are grouped and blister packed for easy identification making it easy for the week end mechanic to get up and running quickly. I have been a marine technician by trade for over 50 years and in my opinion this product meets and exceeds any consumer grade splitter on the market! Keep up the Good Work!
Very heavy well built. I unloaded and put it together myself. Take the parts you can out of crate and build the main frame with wheels. Then I simply stood up the heavy ram and moved the frame with the tires right up to it and placed in the pin. Then it will simply go gently into the cradle. You could use a hand but surely don't need any hoist or crane as the others say It started right up on first pull and I let it run slow for 5 min to break in easy. Turned it off then checked all the fluids and started splitting HUGE oak and Ash. Never slows down or hesitates and I have the engine running about 1/2 speed. This is really a great buy
I hate borrowing wood spittlers-so I had to buy one!

I like the 22 Ton splitter as it has more than enough power for splitting Oak, Maple, Elm, Pine, it's not under powered nor is it over kill....just the right combo for the job. Menard's in the fall of 2013 was offering the splitter which normally retails at [$] for [$] after a [$] instant discount. On top of the [$] instant store discount, they were also offering a 11% weekly entire store discount. The 11% discount was for an in store credit and not a cash back offer. That brought the total cost down to [$], although you still need to purchase 3 gallons of hydraulic fluid since that does not come with this unit, it was one heck of a deal and hard to pass on, so I bought one.
The crating and packaging is well thought out and is very sturdy and very well packaged. Assembly was straight forward as the manual is well written. The only issue to me is that the motor side mounts and the fender on the motor side are very close together and a couple of the bolts are hard to get at to tighten. You need to get the motor bolt (see red arrow in picture) in prior to placing the fender from that side on as the motor bolt thread has to come up from the bottom and room is very tight with the fender in place to scoot the bolt up from the bottom. Welds are strong and well made.
I did not have a picker or a tractor to lift the beam, so I used leverage and planks to get it from my utility trailer onto the splitter frame, I would say this part of the splitter weighs in over 350 pounds. Definitely a lift of some sort is the safest way to assemble the splitter.
Use the recommended AW32 rated hydraulic fluid. You can use 0%-10% Ethanol blend in the LTC (former Tecumseh) engine, minimum octane is 86%. Crankshaft oil recommended is 10W30.
Extremely happy with the wood splitter!!
Pros: Heavy duty and well built-well written manual and instructions. Price was the deal maker.
Cons: I wish the motor could also be mounted on either side depending if you are left or right handed.
Great value, plows through green stringy oak without even so much as a groan. Solid construction. The only con I could think of was the wedge is pretty narrow. Works great but stroke length could be reduced with a wider wedge. Buy it! You won't be disappointed :).
Pros: Easily put together, power to spear, One pull starts
