Measuring for New Cushions

Whether you are looking for new cushions for new patio furniture or as a cost-effective method of updating your older patio furniture, we have the knowledge you will need so you can get your new cushions to fit perfectly. By following these simple steps you'll learn to find the correct size for your new cushions by either measuring your existing cushions or measuring the furniture itself. Read on to learn how.
Measuring Chair/Seating Cushions
1. Measure the length from front to back
2. Measure the width from side to side
3. Measure the thickness

a. Please note that cushions become worn with age so the thickness measurement may not be accurate. A rule of thumb to follow is to measure the back opening of the chair itself. If the chair has no opening then you may estimate 2-3 inches for wood furniture and 3-5 inches for aluminum furniture.
b. Also take the width measurements in three different places to ensure consistency. If your measurements happen to vary then use the smallest measurement.
Measuring Your Chair/Sofa/Loveseat (if there are no existing cushions)
1. Measure the length of the seat from front to back and add one inch
2. Measure the width of the seat from side to side (if the back of the piece is curved add an inch and a half).
3. Measure the back opening of the chair itself. If it has no opening then you may estimate 2-3 inches for wood furniture and 3-5 inches for aluminum furniture.

Measuring Chaise Cushions
1. Lay the cushion on a flat surface to easily measure it
2. Measure the length of the seat cushion from seat fold to end
3. Measure the width side to side in front of the cushion fold
4. Measure the length of the backrest cushion from the top of the seat fold to the bottom
Measuring Your Chaise Lounge
1. Measure the length of the seat from the front of the chaise to the back where it folds
2. Measure the length of the backrest from top to bottom
3. Measure the width of the top back of the seat, the fold between the arms and the end of the seat from edge to edge. Use the measurement that is most narrow as your width.
