The rugged but inexpensive TurboShear HD cuts straight and to the left and makes fast cuts in material thickness up to 18-gauge galvanized steel. Cutting applications include both ferrous and non-ferrous sheet metals, metal roofing/building panels, vinyl, steel mesh, ductwork, even the thick metal of furnace jackets, equipment enclosures or automotive body panels. Adjusts to fit both length and width of popular drill sizes including the more compact motor housings of lithium ion battery powered units.
While this product may not be perfect, it is much easier than cutting by hand, especially if you have a whole building to cut tin for. It is kind of hard to negotiate the ribs in the tin, but these are the only power shears I have found that would deal with ribs at all. The guy on YouTube doesn't seem to have much troube, but the ribs in his tin look a little bigger, plus he's probably had more practice. I also like the fact that the shears do have replaceable blades, although you will probably have to order them. The one thing I don't really like about the shears is that the plastic guard that surrounds the chuck, although slotted to allow for squeezability, still makes it difficult to get the chuck tightened on the shaft. I am concerned that prolonged use would cause wear to the chuck or shaft if the chuck doesn't get tight enough. I'm sure Malco probably had to put the guard on for consumer safety reasons, but mine might get removed in the future.
Pros: Much faster than using tin snips; relatively inexpensive; replaceable blades
Cons: Kind of hard to get the chuck tightened on the shaft; somewhat difficult to cut ribbed tin
